FRSL 2011 Carnival Last Minute Reminders
Friday, 23 September, 7:40pm
With the Carnival less than 15 hours away, the excitement is building... so here are some last minute reminders:
- Ensure your vehicle is locked and you do not leave any valuables in your vehicle.
- Lost property will be located at the Kiosk window under the verandah at the old pavilion. Any unclaimed lost property remaining at the end of the day will be disposed of.
- After players have completed all their games in the Carnival, they are asked to place their shirts into the bin marked 'Shirt Returns'. This bin will be located at the Kiosk window under the verandah at the old pavilion. The FRSL will organize to have the shirts cleaned. Remember to take an extra shirt to wear home!
- Ensure you clean up your rubbish by placing it in the bins provided.
- To ensure the day runs smoothly and on time, players are requested to be at their respective match pitch at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled kick-off time of the match.
- Junior Boys Cup games will utilise the same rules as the Carnival Cup (see the website notice for more information)
Most of all, we hope you have an enjoyable day tomorrow.

FRSL 2011 Carnival This Saturday
Tuesday, 20 September, 9:30pm
Just a reminder that this week Saturday is the final day of season 2011. To mark the occasion, the FRSL is holding the traditional all-day soccer carnival at Thomas Oval in Medina, with the first matches kicking off at 9am.
Last season's carnival was a huge success and we're hoping this season's carnival will be just as successful. There'll be plenty of food, drinks, stalls, fund-raising activities, children's (and some adult's) amusements, and of cause plenty of soccer all throughout the day. So be sure you spread the word to your family, friends, colleagues and whoever else might be interested in coming along so we can all contribute to making this day a success!
Now available for download is a revised Carnival schedule that includes the allocated teams for the various matches.
Please note: to ensure the day runs smoothly and on time, players are requested to be at their respective match pitch at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled kick-off time of the match.
We'll be releasing more information regarding the Carnival throughout the week, so be sure to check our website for the latest updates.
FRSL Carnival: Masters Cup
Tuesday, September 20, 8:15pm
Thank you to the people that have already expressed interest in taking part in the Masters Cup match on Carnival day this Saturday. If we haven't already confirmed your place via email, we will do so over the next few days.
Presently we are looking to fill more positions within both teams. To play in the Masters Cup match, you must be over 30 and not a currently registered player within the 2011 League. So if you fit that criteria and are interested in participating, we would love to hear from you. Please contact us ASAP via email to confirm your place within a team.
The Carnival commences at 9am with the Masters Cup match taking place at 3:10pm on Senior Pitch 3.
Junior and Senior Division Finals Fixtures - Week 2 UPDATED
Thursday, September 15, 9:32pm
The FRSL has now updated the week 2 finals fixtures for the Junior and Senior divisions on the schedule page for each division. Be sure you check your division's schedule, as the times of some matches may have changed since the original schedule was posted. Especially note that the original posting of the Junior Boys week 2 finals fixtures had an error, so the fixtures have now been updated.
Stay up to date via our website for the latest information relating to the finals.

Training for Micro and Mini Division Players
Wednesday, August 10, 2:57pm
This year the bye teams of the Micro and Mini Divisions have been taking part in weekly training sessions. It has been an excellent opportunity for our young and budding players to learn and develop the varying skills of the game of soccer. We want to promote the development of our young players for this reason we are opening up these training sessions to all Micro and Mini Division players that are interested! If your child wishes to participate in a training session and is not currently playing in a match, they are more than welcome to join in.
As way of reminder, we would also like to encourage parents and coaches of the bye teams to assist the training coordinator as much as possible. Training up to 20 children can be a demanding task, so we would really appreciate the help of coaches and parents. This can be done by encouraging the players to do their best and by reinforcing the instruction given by the training coordinator.
Junior Boys Round Robin Competition
Tuesday, July 5, 2:30pm
Information is now available regarding the Junior Boys Division Round Robin Competition. This competition runs throughout 2 weeks in July and 1 week in August. Visit the Junior Boys Division Round Robin Competition page to view competition fixtures, rules and results.
Week 4 Update - Important Notes
Friday, May 20, 1:30pm
The Free Reformed Soccer League hopes you are enjoying the new season so far. Firstly, we'd like to apologise for the delay in posting the match results to the website. We have a new system this year for recording results so need to make some adjustments to our automated process that generates the results information for the website. We are aiming to have the results online by the end of this week or early next week.
Four weeks into the season there are a number of important points that we would like to bring to the attention of the players:
All Divisions
- No jewellery may be worn at any time during a match (if you can't take it out, then tape it up). It is important to note that this includes rubber or string bracelets and the like.
- Referees have been (and are) requested to clamp down on swearing from players. There have been quite a number of incidents in the past few weeks of strong swearing from players, some of which has gone undetected by referees (but not by players and spectators). This is very dissappointing, especially seeing the FRSL is a Christian league. We strongly warn all players to refrain from swearing or using abusive language on or off the field.
- The FRSL is concerned with the high level of 'unclean' tackling taking place during matches so far this season. A significant number of long and short term injuries have been sustained as a result. We urge all players to take care when tackling so that it does not endanger your opponent. Referees have been instructed to monitor any reckless or dangerous tackles (including dangerous slide tackling) and will not hesitate to issue a caution or send-off depending on the severity and circumstances of the tackle.
- Match durations have now been added to the schedule pages and rules documents.
Micro and Mini Divisions
- As stipulated in the FRSL by-laws, the number of players on the field must be adhered to at all times during a match. This is 8 per side for Micro and 10 per side for Mini. Coaches, you must ensure this rule is adhered too. Consistency is a good teacher and it is not good to make changes each week as it confuses everybody.
Junior Boys and Girls Divisions
- Umpiring rosters for Micro and Mini games have now been added to the Junior division schedule web pages. Please ensure you review these pages regularly in case of changes to the roster.
Senior Mens Division
- Senior Men rostered to line on match day should be attired in their team's uniform (if preferred, runners are acceptable rather than soccer boots). Linesman should arrive at least 5 minutes prior to the scheduled match start time to allow the match referee to meet with the linesman.
Updated League Rules and By-Laws
Friday, 29 April, 9:15pm
The Free Reformed Soccer League has now updated and published the league rules and by-laws for season 2011. These are available for download in PDF format from our website. Be sure you take some time to read and familiarise yourself with the rules as they play an important part in both the pre-match processes and the matches themselves.
Some of the important changes incorporated into the new rules are:
- The number of Mini and Micro players that can play on the field has been increased
- No jewellery may be worn at any time (if you can't take it out, then tape it up)
- For the Junior Boys division, a captain of an undermanned team needs to contact Junior Coordinator (Nathan Terpstra) before Thursday night to arrange players from the bye-team to play. The captain must inform the Junior Coordinator who is missing so an equivalent player can be chosen.
- Replacement players for Junior Boys and Junior Girls are no longer required to play in goals.
Playing Attire Expectations
Friday, 29 April, 5:30pm
In accordance with law 4 of the FIFA Laws of the Game, the FRSL expects all players to be properly attired before entering the field of play. The basic compulsory equipment of a player comprises the following separate items:
- a jersey or shirt with sleeves – the FRSL will supply jerseys/shirts for all divisions and these will be made available on the first day prior to the start of each game.
- shorts – players in all divisions are expected to provide their own shorts and they must be black in colour (there is a special exception with Senior Men - see below)
- stockings (long socks) - players in all divisions (except Senior Men) are expected to provide their own socks and they must be black in colour. For the Senior Men's division only, the FRSL will supply jersey colour coordinated socks.
- shinguards - players in all divisions must provide their own shin guards. A player without shin guards will not be permitted to play.
- footwear (i.e. soccer boots) - players in all divisions are expected to provide their own footwear, preferably boots. While not recommended, sneakers or runners are also acceptable.
For safety reasons, a player must not use equipment or wear anything that is dangerous to himself or another player (including any kind of jewellery - but if you can't take it out, then tape it up!). In addition, shinguards must be covered entirely by the stockings and be made of rubber, plastic or a similar suitable material.
The FRSL will give teams a 2-week grace period at the beginning of the season before they will be penalised for wearing the incorrect regulation uniform (in relation to shirts and socks).
Senior Men's Division - Special Exception Regarding Shorts
Senior Men's division teams have the option of changing the colour of their shorts, however they must first inform the FRSL Committee and receive their approval to do so. Note that this change must be uniform for every player in the team and this includes the team supplying additional pairs of shorts for pool players that play for them.
Playing Schedules Published
Saturday, 23 April, 9:25pm
As some of you may already be aware, the playing schedules were published on our website earlier this week. However, please note that since they were initially published some minor changes have been made to some schedules, so please double check (or reprint) the schedule for your division.
IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING THE FIRST WEEK (April 30):
- All games on the first week (April 30) are scheduled to start earlier than usual, so please check the schedules for the amended start time. This is to make it possible for many of the Southern River Church players and parents to attend Rev. Rupke's mid-afternoon welcoming function.
- Since it is the first week and there are some pre-match organisational matters to attend to, all players are actually expected to arrive at their playing field 30 minutes earlier than the scheduled kick-off time (for example, players in the teams of the first Micro, Mini and Junior division games should arrive at 11:30am).
Players (and parents), please ensure you are on time so the first day runs smoothly.
There'll be plenty more information to come in the next week. So remember to check the website and your email for the latest updates.
REMINDER: Inform FRSL Of Your Team Captains
Saturday, 23 April, 9:06pm
Divisions: Senior Mens, Senior Womens
Just a reminder that the FRSL is still waiting to hear from a number of teams in the Senior Mens and one team in the Senior Womens division to inform us of their chosen team captain and vice captain. The teams that have not yet contacted us are:
- BALDIVIS
- BYFORD
- DARLING DOWNS
- OPALS (Senior Womens)
- ROCKINGHAM
- SOUTHERN RIVER DISTRICTS
The teams listed above must immediately email the FRSL the name and contact details of your captain. If your team has still not yet nominated a captain and/or vice captain, then at least send us the details of one person in the team who will act as a temporary team contact.
Remember, the team captains (or temporary contacts) will be required to attend FRSL Players Committee meetings, the first of which is being held on Wednesday, April 27 from 7:30pm to 8:30pm at the Southern River Church Hall.
Correction: Provision of Socks
Thursday, 21 April, 1:10pm
Contrary to what was written in the start of season brochure, the FRSL now requires that players in all divisions except Senior Men's provide their own socks and they are to be black in colour. Teams will be given a 2 week grace period at the beginning of the season before they will be penalised for wearing the incorrect regulation uniform.
The FRSL wishes to apologise for any confusion or inconvenience caused regarding the provision of socks for this year.
Micro and Mini Teams Updated
Friday, 15 April, 8:25pm
The FRSL asks all players registered in the Micro and Mini divisions to review recent minor changes to the Micro and Mini teams. The teams have been recently updated due to team shirt colours being finalised as well as more coaches having been found for the teams. It is possible that a few players have been relocated due to coach allocation, so please be sure you double check what team you are in.
Umpires and Linesman Urgently Required
Friday, 15 April, 8:05pm
Divisions: Senior Mens, Senior Womens
With a huge number of players again this year, the FRSL is in urgent need of volunteers willing to be umpires and linesman for the Junior and Senior Womens divisions. We really need your help as we currently do not have sufficient numbers to official the games in these divisions!
So if you would like to give it a try or need more information in what's involved, please contact Frank Janssen as soon as possible via the soccer commitee email address.
Inform FRSL Of Your Team Captains
Friday, 15 April, 8:00pm
Divisions: Senior Mens, Senior Womens
The FRSL is requesting that all teams in the Senior Mens and Senior Womens divisions inform us of their chosen team captain and vice captain. It is important you email the FRSL the name and contact details of your captains by next Friday (April 22). If your team has not yet nominated a captain and/or vice captain, then please send us the details of one person in the team who will act as a temporary team contact.
Please note, teams that include players from other churches need to make additional effort to include those players in your discussions.
The nominated captain will automatically become part of the FRSL Players Committee and will be the team's representative at an Executive level in the FRSL. You will be required to attend a couple of Player Committee meetings throughout the season where you will have the opportunity to give feedback, asks questions or voice concerns on behalf of your team. The first Player Committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 27 at a time and venue to be decided.
Official Teams Published
Thursday, 7 April, 9:45pm
As some of you may already be aware, the FRSL has now published the teams for the 2011 season on the FRSL website. Please understand that making the teams is a massive task and while the FRSL does its utmost to accommodate special requests from parents and players, we will not always be able to fulfill those requests. If you have any genuine concern with you or your child's placement in a team, please contact the FRSL and we will see what we can do.
One obvious thing you will notice this season is that there is no Senior Boys division. This is because there were not enough players registered within this division to make it a division in its own right. So we have moved the players registered as Senior Boys to either the Junior Boys division or the Senior Mens division. In 2012 we hope to look at adjusting the age brackets that apply to both the Junior Boys and Senior Boys divisions to alleviate this problem.
We would also like to remind the Senior Men that it is important that when you register you select the correct church that you are a member of. Some players registering this year selected the incorrect church, meaning that the initial published teams had to be removed from the website and the entire player list had to be audited. The Senior Mens division teams are now updated though, so please double check what team you are in as it may have changed from the original publication.
Remember, the season kicks off on Saturday, April 30, that's in less than 4 weeks! We are currently working on devising the playing schedules and hope to make them available online within the next few weeks.
Revised Season Dates - 30th April Kick Off
Tuesday, 22 March, 1:45pm
Earlier you had been advised that the first games of season 2011 would kick off on April 9. However, a late deviation in the school term dates at the beginning of 2011 now means that the first two weeks of soccer would fall in the term 1 school holidays. So we have now pushed the start date of the season to be 3 weeks later, and the first games for all divisions will kick off after the Easter break on Saturday, April 30.
The revised season 2011 dates are as follows:
- April: 30
- May: 7, 14, 21, 28
- June: 4 (long weekend), 11, 18, 25
- July: 2, 9 (first Saturday of term 2 holidays), 23 (last Saturday of term 2 holidays), 30
- August: 6, 13, 20, 27
- September: 3, 10 (finals), 17 (finals), 24 (Carnival/Grand Finals)
We apologise for any inconvenience the change of dates may have caused.
Season 2011 Brochure Released
Monday, 7 February, 9:45pm
During the summer break, the FRSL committee have been very busy preparing for the new season. Much of the important information regarding the new season has been collated into a full colour brochure (PDF, 2.03Mb) which is now available for download. Many of you should have received this brochure in your church pigeon holes last Sunday.
