Junior Boys/Girls and Senior Boys Umpiring Duties
Wednesday, 18 April, 3:10pm
This year, players in Junior Boys, Junior Girls and Senior Boys will assist in umpiring the Micro and Mini division matches. The umpiring roster for the matches are located on the schedule pages of the relevant Junior and Senior divisions.
Every Senior Boys player is rostered to umpire this year and the Senior Boys are umpiring every Mini division match this season (3 matches every week). Junior Boys in grade 8 are umpiring the 12:45pm Micro division matches, while grade 9 and 10 Junior Girls are umpiring the 2:00pm and 3:25pm Micro division matches.
If are unable to roster a match you've been allocated to then you must organise a swap with a team mate and inform the Junior Coordinator (Nathan Terpstra) by email. Nathan must be informed by no later than the Tuesday before the match takes place.
For umpiring, you will need a ball (size 3 for Micro division and size 4 for Mini division), a stopwatch and whistle. These can be obtained before the match from the pavilion near the kiosk (we're using the new pavilion this season). Nathan will not be around all the time, so please return the equipment from where you found it at the end of your match. Note that the Micro division games consist of 20 minute halves with a 5 minute interval, while the Mini division matches consist of 25 minute halves with a 5 minute interval.
If you need to contact Nathan, the Junior division coordinator, he can be reached by emailing nathan.terpstra(at)hotmail.com.
Micro and Mini Training - Volunteers Needed Urgently
Monday, April 16, 3:37pm
Over the past years, the FRSL has committed to offer our members as many opportunities as possible to develop the skills of the Micro and Mini division players. Last year we re-implemented Micro/Mini training as per the request of many parents. This is where Micro and Mini players have a training session instead of their scheduled bye. This session helps them gain in confidence and understanding of the game, while at the same time being a fun activity during which players bond as a team and help each other out.
The FRSL wants to keep this initiative afloat this year, however we have not been able to find a coach/trainer willing to run the training sessions. Therefore, we are putting the call out to you to help us in filling this role, so that we can continue to provide the Micro/Mini training program in season 2012.
We are looking for someone (or a group of people) who would be able to come down to soccer each week and run the training sessions (with the help of the Micro and Mini coaches). The session is at a set time every week and lasts for 45 minutes. You are welcome to devise your own training routine or the Micro/Mini coordinator is more than willing to lend a hand in creating one with you.
NOTE: Until the position is filled (or we advise otherwise), there will be no Micro/Mini training for season 2012. So we're counting on you to help give the FRSL's next generation of soccer players a fair go!
Linesman and Referees Urgently Required
Thursday, March 29, 3:25pm
The FRSL has often stressed that volunteers make this machine that we call the Free Reformed Soccer League run. And it's true - without the help of countless volunteers, the season would not be able to go ahead.
With around four weeks to go until the season starts, we are still in urgent need of more linesman and referees. We have not even met our minimum numbers required and this is why we need you, yes you, to help us bear the load of responsibility! We still need, at the very least, six linesman and two referees. Please note that this is the bare minimum that we need to fill the void.
While we would like to thank all of those who have kindly offered to give of their time this season to referee and line, we still need more help to get us off the ground.
Can you give a little of your time on some Saturdays to help line or referee?
Remember, you are not expected to commit to every Saturday, as linesman and referees are allocated on a rostered basis, depending on availability.
We hope that you give consideration to whether you are able to assist us in filling these roles. We need these roles filled if season 2012 is to run successfully!
If you are willing to assist, please email soccer.committee(at)frca.org.au with a resounding "yes, count me in to [referee / line] this season."
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Revised Season Dates - April 21 Kick-off
Tuesday, March 13, 9:45pm
Season 2012 was originally scheduled to kick off for all divisions on Saturday, March 24. However, we have recently been informed by the Shire of Kwinana that Thomas Oval will be unavailable on our second scheduled week of soccer, March 31. This is because a pre-arranged international softball tournament is taking place on this date at the oval.
Therefore, rather than have one week of soccer on March 24 and a 3 week break (March 31 and 2 weeks of Easter holidays), the FRSL has decided it would be more sensible to postpone the start of the soccer season until April. This means the new kick-off date for all divisions will be Saturday, April 21.
So below are the revised season dates:
- April: 21, 28
- May: 5, 12, 19, 26
- June: 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
- July: 7, 28
- Aug: 4, 11, 18, 25
- Sep: 1, 8 (finals), 15 (finals), 22 (carnival/grand finals)
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the change in dates.
Clarification of Playing Attire Requirements
Wednesday, March 7, 1:15pm
There has been some confusion as to what attire and equipment players need to supply, due to a mis-print in the distributed hard-copy of the start-of-season brochure's 'Frequently Asked Questions' section.
To clarify, this season the FRSL will be supplying socks and jerseys (shirts) for the Senior Men's and Women's divisions. For all other divisions, the FRSL will supply jerseys, but players must provide their own black socks.
In every division, from Micro up to Senior, players are required to provide their own black shorts and wear them each week. Senior Men's or Women's division teams wishing to change the colour of their shorts must inform the FRSL Committee and receive permission to do so.
Teams will be given a 2 week grace period at the beginning of the season before they will be penalised for wearing the incorrect regulation uniform. For safety reasons, all players must wear shin guards, which are to be worn on the inside of socks. Players not wearing shin guards will not be permitted to play. FIFA Law 4 states that the player's equipment should be socks, shorts, jersey/shirt, and shin guards. Therefore no player can escape without one of these items. Sneakers or runners are permitted but not recommended.
